Agrikultur Piatti

A pioneer of biodynamic farming

The Piatti family acquired the farm in 1834 as part of the Loosdorf estate. From 1982, Alfons Piatti converted the entire estate to biodynamic agriculture.

Since then, around 600 ha of farmland and forest have been managed according to biodynamic guidelines. The estate also keeps a herd of around 60 cattle, whose manure compost fertilises the crops.

Philosophy

Food for body, mind and soul

Farming has always been seen in a wider context. On the one hand philosophically and spiritually, as the foundation of life for people and animals and as the source and guardian of all living things. On the other hand geographically too, by initiating and supporting agricultural projects.

The aim is to produce high-quality food for body, mind and soul. The focus is on building up stable humus in the soil, with the soil fertility this brings, and on supporting climate protection.

Circular farming

Demeter farming creates a closed cycle through the mandatory keeping of ruminants. Lucerne serves as home-grown fodder and as a natural source of nitrogen for the soil.

Preparations

Plant materials (flowers, leaves, bark) are placed in animal sheaths and either buried in the soil or hung up and exposed to the seasons, then spread on the fields in spring.
